Easter Preparation in the Life of Erika

My favorite thing about Easter: My second favorite thing about Easter:

The Green Life of Brent and Erika

For two people who aren't Irish, aren't Catholic, and don't drink, Brent and I are sort of ridiculously into St. Patrick's day. Maybe it's because we always get excited for Valentines' Day too late (our families often send us cards, and then we realize we haven't sent out anything...), and so we latch onto the next available holiday. So, in honor of St. Patty's, our blog will be green for the next little while. This is the way that we 'go green'. Also, I've started buying reusable shopping bags, which seems a little less colorful but better for the environment.

The Triumphant Life of Erika

This will seem lame, but I'm so proud of myself that I'm practically running throughout the house. I MADE A DOCTOR'S APPOINTMENT! ON THE PHONE! For those of you who don't know, phones are scary, particularly when the call is of the appointment making variety. It's been very hard. However, I have a thryoid thing that might be the reason I can't get pregnant (I just read somewhere that if you don't have enough thyroid hormone, it can make you not ovulate!), and I just had to decide that I wanted to expand my family more than I feared the phone. So there. Eat it, telephone.

The Back-to-Normal Life of Brent and Erika

Since many of you have asked, yes, we are feeling better. Yesterday we both even went to work! Things are more or less back to normal. Here are some notes on February so far: Every morning when I drive to work, I see a Statue of Liberty that has a goatee. Sometimes when I drive home she has a Hijab. S/he always seems very cold. Both varieties want to do my taxes. This seems appropriate. I love when the clouds make a half-hearted attempt to snow. Yesterday as I was walking to my car there were tiny tiny flakes falling about 20 per minute, as if the sky was trying to say, "I know, I don't want to do this either..." I was called to teach the 6-7 year-olds in primary. So far, I have learned three things: 1. I like them better than sunbeams (to teach) 2. I am boring. 3. "Jesus is a big umbrella." Just to follow up on the "I am boring" part of my last comment, they told me they were bored, and I asked what we could do to not be boring. Their first suggestion...

The Congested Life of Brent and Erika

We are sick. Very sick. We have been on our new couch all day, overloading on vitamin C and sincerely hoping that we have enough tissues to make it through the night. We are also hoping that Brent can go back to work tomorrow, and that Chloe remains content to snuggle with us. We are thankful for email and cell phones and substitute teachers that made it possible for us to stay home today. We are thankful for the wii. We are thankful for mandarin oranges. We are thankful for Western Family's version of Nyquil--same benefits, half the cost. We are thankful for whoever came up with Macaroni and Cheese. What a saint.

The Ikea Life of Brent and Erika

A few weeks ago my friend Katie remarked that when she and her then boyfriend (now fiance!) went to Ikea, they liked to play this game where they pointed out everything that they had seen in our house. They had quite a lot to point out, and as of today they've got one more item to add to the list. As you probably know (or have gathered through the pictures), practically everything you buy at Ikea requires assembly, which (so their ads tell me) keeps their costs down. If you've ever put something together from Ikea, you will know that since they're an international company they only put pictures on their instructions--no text. I mostly really like this, although there were a few pictures that I thought they left out. Here are the pictures I would have included: 1. A picture of the assembler grabbing a drill to make the holes a little larger so that the bolts can go through both pieces. 2. A picture of the assmbler laying on the ground turning a tiny he...

Top 10 Things to Never Try Again

10. Eat at a restaurant where they place your napkin on your lap for you. 9. Play "Risk" by ourselves. 8. Thicken runny waffle batter with chunky peanut butter. 7. Read the Twilight series out loud in two weeks. 6. Try to drive home from Bountiful after 11 o'clock at night in a blizzard. 5. Drive to Layton after 9 o'clock on a snowy night with non-functional windshield wipers. 4. Build a life-sized horse drawn sleigh in one night (and then go to church 2 hours after finishing it...) 3. Chili Cheese Corn Dogs. 2. Plan our vacation menu based on online coupons... 1. Move the huge gold couch up the stairs by ourselves.
